Building a Bakery Update

Hello Friends Update Time!

Thank you to all of you who have reached out and offered support, helping hand(s), advice, and their time. It means a-lot to me and my family….and to the Beach Community.

This week has been ALOT - and yes it was all part of the plan. 𝘙𝘦𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘦 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘴𝘪𝘨𝘯𝘦𝘥 𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘭𝘢𝘴𝘵 𝘸𝘦𝘦𝘬.

The week started off with a bang with a visit to Williams Appliances. Lorne, the owner, has been in the business for over 55 years and knows his stuff!! Together we picked out all the ‘big’ equipment for the Bakery. To give you a quick insight I have pre-purchased three mixers, a massive display case, huge fridge & freezer, sheeter, proofers, ovens, counter top/prep tables, pans, bins and so much more! Needless to say everything will be safe, clean and on warranty for at least a couple of years. And yes I will be naming all of our big equipment . Next step is to lock down display cabinets, shelving, baking tools, and everything else….including aprons for the team.

On Wed we were finally able to get the keys to the Bakery and my mom braved the first ‘tour’ of the space with EVERYTHING gone. I was even a bit thrown off that the wall shelves were gone - but that’s okay! Blank Slate right!! We will just build new ones and make it our own.

On Thur I got to tour the space myself - the goal was to meet with the Health Inspector, RM and measure every square inch of the space.

The meeting with the Health Inspector (Lindsay) was GREAT!! He pointed out what I had feared - the floors in the prep/kitchen area are horrible and no where close to code! They will need to be addressed before anything can move in! On the PLUS side the retail front is great - zero code issues except for where the 7Up cooler was…..that beast wrecked the floors!!!

Once we address the floor damage on the retail side we can build up the front end and at least sell ‘something’ not produced in the bakery. As I was told “I can make it pretty” - . FYI - pretty is expensive, so I am going with minimalistic and functional for year one. “Pretty” may have to wait.

For the next week+ my mama is at the Bakery cleaning - cleaning so we can start building, painting, and prepping for equipment. If you know my mama and you are at VB…feel free to stop by and say hello. Cleaning will take ALOT of time!

I have so much more to update - but this is turning into a mini novel. Please follow on Facebook Village Green Bakery and on Instagram for daily updates, and I will share more lengthy updates on posts just like this!
